About our group and applying to it
We are a strongly collaborative and interdisciplinary group that aims to understand the physical basis of biomolecular mechanisms. We hire outstanding experimental scientists interested in using type of approach to answer biological questions from a quantitative point of view.
Experience in one or more of a variety of fields, e.g. (bio)physics, single-molecule techniques, optical imaging or microscopy, biochemistry, molecular biology, or quantitative cell biology, is welcomed. Candidates of all backgrounds who judge that they would thrive in such an environment are invited to apply. Women are particularly encouraged to apply, as they typically make up a smaller fraction of the applicant pool.
Interested applicants are invited to submit a cover letter explaining their motivation and fit to the group, together with a CV (including a complete publication list) and the names plus email addresses of three references. See further details below.
Positions for postdoctoral researchers interested in eukaryotic replication
We are always looking to hire talented biophysicists, biochemists, microscopists to join our group!
Outstanding candidates are highly encouraged to apply. A complete CV (including a complete publication list) and the names plus email addresses of three references should be included. Preliminary enquiries are always welcome and may be directed to Prof. Nynke Dekker.
Open positions for Ph.D. students interested in eukaryotic replication
We are looking for new DPhil students to join the Dekker Group at the University of Oxford and contribute to our research on eukaryotic DNA replication.
Interested candidates are encouraged to contact Prof. Nynke Dekker well in advance of the relevant University application deadlines.
Graduate application options
Prospective students interested in joining the Dekker Group should apply through an appropriate University of Oxford graduate programme. Several programmes described below provide routes into biophysics-related research and may offer opportunities to undertake doctoral research within the group.
Prospective applicants should consult the individual programme websites for the latest information on eligibility, funding, application requirements and deadlines. Applicants interested in working with the Dekker Group are encouraged to get in touch sufficiently in advance of the relevant application deadlines.
DPhil in Condensed Matter Physics (CMP)
A doctoral programme within Oxford's Department of Physics, providing opportunities to undertake research in areas including biological and soft matter physics.
Interdisciplinary Life and Environmental Science Landscape Award (ILESLA)
An interdisciplinary doctoral training programme spanning the life and environmental sciences and related disciplines.
Engineering Biology Centre for Doctoral Training (EngBioCDT)
A four-year doctoral training programme focused on interdisciplinary research at the interface of biology, engineering and the physical sciences.
DPhil in Biochemistry
A doctoral programme offering research opportunities across a broad range of areas in molecular and cellular biochemistry. Interdisciplinary and collaborative projects with groups in the Department of Biochemistry can provide opportunities to undertake research involving the Dekker Group.
Ellison Scholars programme
A fully funded scholarship programme for graduate study at Oxford, with opportunities for scholars to contribute to interdisciplinary research projects at the Ellison Institute of Technology in collaboration with Oxford faculty members.
NEW opening! Postdoctoral Researcher in Single-Molecule Biophysics of Eukaryotic Transcription
We have an opening for an outstanding experimental postdoctoral researcher to join an interdisciplinary project in single-molecule biophysics of eukaryotic transcription. The project will investigate how RNA polymerase responds to DNA damage-induced transcription stress, using advanced fluorescence microscopy and complementary biochemical approaches. The successful candidate will work in a collaborative international environment, interacting with biophysics, biochemistry, and structural biology partners in Oxford and the Netherlands, with opportunities to publish high-quality research, develop new skills, and contribute to a supportive and ambitious research team. Options for external funding
Postdoctoral candidates are also encouraged to assess whether they are eligible for external funding, for which there are many opportunities. A brief listing is provided here:
- BBSRC Postdoctoral Fellowships
- EMBO Fellowships
- EU Marie Curie Fellowships
- Human Frontier Science Program Postdoctoral Fellowships
- Helen Hay Whitney Foundation Research Fellowships
- Jane Coffin Childs Postdoctoral Fellowship
